5 Awesome Anatomical Parts of Cats
Cats have a way of finding their way into just about every facet of our culture, so it’s no surprise that a few felines here and there found themselves in some pretty famous roles in popular culture. Here are 5 of the most famous fictitious felines.
1. You are elderly yourself. This is probably the number one reason I suggest that someone adopt an older cat. Many times you will see an elderly person go ahead and adopt a kitten, only to become unable to care for the cat or pass on before their kitty does. This leaves the cat with a number of likely trauma's. First, their beloved owner who rescued them and loved them is gone. Second, few families want to take on the burden of an extra animal and will shelter them so these kitties are put into shelters. Third, elderly cats are the least likely to be adopted and the most like to be euthanized in shelters with over population problems.
This is probably the most common usage for catnip, it's in the name even! It's nip for cats! Catnip is used in a variety of toys and the chemical created when crushed, nepetalactone, is what causes the variety of reactions in cats. Only about 50% of cats are affected by it, but anyone with a cat that loves it can see the variety of reactions. I have three, all of which are affected to varying degrees. One eats it and falls asleep, one runs wildly through the house, and the other (my male) becomes a roaring lion... (or so he thinks). The reactions are always quite interesting to watch and it is harmless for your pets to enjoy. Once they stop being interested they'll be done with it and you can put it away for the next time.
We've all heard the adage "Dogs have Friends and Cats have Staff", but is this really an accurate portrayal of how cats feel about their owners? Certain breeds of cats are quite desperately attached to their families and others will pick one individual to call their own, wasting away when they aren't given the love and affection they feel they are bestowing on their owner. Here is a list of five ways you can tell if your cat really, truly loves you.
Many years ago I still lived at home with my parents and our family’s two cats. One of these cats was a wise-acre named Max who loved to cause problems for my mom every step of the way, whether she asked for it or not. And Max, despite being a very active and seemingly healthy cat came down with cancer.

Adopting any animal is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. You are giving a home back to an animal that lost, or never had one; as with any pet owning experience, however, it is a long term responsibility. Always think things through carefully before adopting, once you provide a home you don't want to break your cats heart by sending them back to the shelter because you were not prepared. In fact, many shelters and rescues now perform home checks to prevent this from happening. They want to ensure that you are prepared to care for a new animal and have a lifestyle that will compliment the cat that has caught your heart. The last thing they want is the heartbreaking return of an animal, nor do they want to send a special needs animal home with an unprepared owner that is then forced to euthanize because they were not prepared for the work.

Cats can be “trained” if you work with them and try to understand who and what they are. Successful training means everyone is happy with the outcome and what achieved it without being stressed. Evaluate why you are training your cat; should be for the same reasons you train your child, to protect them and enrich their life not just because it would be cool to see if they could be trained to do something.

There are a number of different flea control methods and flea prevention methods out there. How is an owner supposed to sift through them all and decide what’s best? There are some standard things that every owner should look for in a flea prevention medication; it should cover all the life cycles of the flea and be free of permethrins. A cat owner should never use flea products for their dogs on cats. And remember, when it comes to chemicals and medications, More is never better. These products will be absorbed or ingested by your pet, too much can make them very ill.

When you mention cats and allergies, the first response is to think that your cat is making your nose itch and your eyes water. What we don’t typically think of is the fact that cats, like all animals, can have allergies of their own, some more irritating than others. If you’ve seen your cat act a bit strangely, as if they may have an allergy of their own, this short guide may help you to understand what’s up and how to treat it.
As a cat owner, I’m no stranger to scratches here and there. But one thing I’m always a bit confused about is how non-cat owners assume that since cats have claws at the end of their paws, that no one is safe from the never-ending attack that is the kitty’s fury. I try and explain that cat’s aren’t entirely as dangerous as they make them sound, but they insist that they’d never want to have a cat around their babies, despite owning a dog or two. Well, why not explain a little bit about the truth behind how little damage cats can actually do to humans, and what they really can.
We don’t seem to give cats as much credit as they properly deserve anymore since we lump them in as just “pet.” When looking at their intelligence compared to dogs, it’s hard to really determine their intelligence, though more than anything it seems like they lack the basic ability to learn vocal commands when compared to dogs. But is this just a misconception? Can cats learn proper English? Well, perhaps to some extent. Let’s take a look a cats and see if they can or can’t really learn a language.
Felines are a lot smarter than some people give them credit. When people think of smart pets, they always tend to gravitate toward dogs, purely because dogs are easier to train. Cats, however, can still learn a great many things, one of which is the ability to use the toilet rather than the litter box. Wait, what? Can a cat really learn to use the toilet? Yes, and here’s how.
If you have a cat that’s free to run outside and isn’t spayed yet, or you’re interested in breeding your kitties, then you’ll need to know a thing or two about dealing with a cat’s pregnancy. Female cats share some similarities to human females when it comes to pregnancy, but there are quite a few things to consider for your cat. Here’s a bit of advice for caring for a pregnant feline.
A lot of cat owners take for granted how amazing their pet’s eyes really are, and specifically how clean they tend to be. A lot of dog owners will be quick to lament their pet’s weepy eyes, but cats don’t usually have the same problem. Still, they’re not exempt from getting some eye drainage now and then. Here’s what you should know about your cat’s eyes and how to clean them if need be.
Cats love to defy convention. Just when we think we’ve figured them out, they go ahead and come up with a new way out acting that utterly baffles us. Even if you’ve decided you have a handle on some of the things cats do, you’ll learn something to contrary. Here are just a few feline behaviors that you may not have previously understood.

The long standing quarrel between cats and dogs continues will into comparisons of their intelligence. Just how smart are cats? And how smart are then when compared to dogs? The answer is... No one really knows. In some scientific testing dogs have most assuredly come out ahead, but then in other tests, cats have taken the lead. The problem appears to lie in that both seem to have different strengths and learning skills and that the testing is never suited for both animals at the same time. Not to mention that dogs have that desperate desire to please their owner which may drive them to pick things up more quickly; at least for a little while or with constant reward.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, there are appox. 93.6 million cats owned in the US. Thirty-three percent of owners of own at least one cat and on average people have two. 22% of cats owned were adopted from the animal shelter, and 87% of owned cats are spayed and neutered. So, are you ready to join these millions of happy cat owners and undertake the responsibility of owning a cat?
A vaccine for your cat is just like a vaccine for your children. It contains a modified or dead virus that enters the blood stream through an injection, intranasal spray, or edible form. The immune system reacts to this intruder and creates antibodies for the specific virus being introduced. Over the course of a few weeks, these antibodies will be created and remembered for future protection providing larger and faster responses. If the cat is ever exposed to a dangerous or live form of the virus, they now have an adequate response system that will keep them from getting sick or help to lessen the severity of the illness.
One of the biggest threats to your cats health comes in a small package. Fleas can cause FAD (flea allergy dermatitis), tapeworms, hair loss and even anemia. They can make both you and your pet miserable. Itchy, bumpy bites can lead to days of irritation. How can you tell if these pests are infesting your pet and your home? Run a damp cloth over your pet then hold it up and look at it. You are looking for small, dark spots called "flea dirt". "Flea dirt" is actually flea feces and is made up of digested blood that will turn a reddish brown when moistened by the damp towel.
Eye inflammation is one of the most common health problems suffered by cats. There are a number of signs and symptoms that can suggest a problem with the eye and two main diseases that are most common. It is important that cat owners are aware that if their cat appears to have a painful eye they need immediate veterinary care.
Gastritis is a common problem amongst cats and is an inflammation of the stomach lining. The reasons for gastritis are often never discovered and it can cause a number of stomach related problems including vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, and weakness. Cats will often vomit up frothy, yellow and occasionally bloody vomit; in chronic cases this blood will look like coffee grounds in the vomit. Acute gastritis tends to come on quickly and be severe; it generally occurs after your cat eats something bad for them. Chronic gastritis is less severe and generally has milder symptoms.
Heartworm infections are less common in cats than in dogs, in fact they are likely accidental hosts as their bodies to not provide an ideal host like the body of a dog.
Separation anxiety tends to be something we associate with young children or dogs, never cats. We are all brought up with the idea that cats are self-sufficient and completely independent; they don’t need humans they simply tolerate us. Cats can, however, suffer from separation anxiety as well. A good number of cat breeds simply do not do well without constant companionship, either the companionship of another cat or their human. No one knows why cats suffer from separation anxiety, it could be a combination of environmental and psychological factors. Some cats that have been completely normal may suddenly develop separation anxiety with a change in their owners work schedule, the introduction of a new baby, or after being boarded while the family is on vacation. Many of the signs of separation anxiety mimic the signs of serious medical conditions, so if your cat displays these be sure you get them to the Vet for an exam before assuming that separation anxiety is the problem.
Cats, much like humans, can get upper respiratory tract infections. The nose, throat and sinus areas are susceptible to a number of infections caused by viruses and bacteria. At first look, a feline upper respiratory tract infection seems much like the human cold. Your cat may suffer a runny nose, sneeze or even cough. They may seem to get better after a time, just like humans, before the head cold moves into their chest and develops into a much more serious condition. If allowed to go untreated, these infections can develop into serious conditions such as pneumonia.
There’s a common myth that states that cats hate water. Cartoons depict cats as hating anything wet so much that they become physically capable of walking on top of it on their tip-toes to avoid it altogether. Well, cats are living creatures, and like all living creatures they need water to continue being living creatures. Too often people seem to misunderstand the relationship that cats have with water, so let’s talk a little bit about why water is so important for your felines.

Finding a Vet, or picking a new one, is a challenge animal owners undertake often. If you are new, or perhaps have moved to a new location, here are some ideas to make the process smoother. Each of these is critical in making both you and your animal comfortable with those that will providing this essential care.
There are two types or renal, or kidney, failure that are common in cats: acute and chronic. Acute Renal Failure is often brought on by something suddenly, such as ingesting a poison, trauma to the abdomen, or a blood clot preventing blood flow to the kidney’s. Chronic Renal Failure, or CRF, is caused by a number of things.

Few things are more upsetting to a cat owning household than hearing, or seeing, your cat vomiting. It often causes owners to panic and wonder if something serious is wrong, however if your cat is not vomiting bile or blood, most causes are easy to treat. Only a few will require veterinary care.
Skin diseases are one of the top ten reasons that cats end up at the vet. They are the fifth leading diagnosis amongst pets. Cats can have rashes, lesions, cysts, even acne. Hairless and white furred cats can suffer from severe sunburns. Symptoms of skin problems tend to include a dull, dry coat, hair loss, irritated and red skin, flaky dry skin, bumps and lumps, scabs, scaly patches and excessive scratching. They can affect both the skin and beauty of your pet.

The subject of declawing is a very heated one. Regardless of the personal opinion or beliefs of advocates on both sides, the basic, technical knowledge of what is done anatomically during the procedure does not change, and it is best to preface any information on the subject with an explanation of what is done during an onychectomy or declawing surgery.

Feline lower urinary tract disease or feline urologic syndrome is the most common cause of trouble in the feline lower urinary tract and one of the top ten most common problems in cats. The lower urinary tract consists of the bladder, bladder sphincters and urethra and conditions affecting any of these can cause FLUTD. A related but different condition called cystitis affects only the urinary bladder.
The litter box is one of the biggest complaints cat owners typically have regarding feline adoption. There’s pretty much no way to get around it as every animal needs to do their business, but cats specifically tend to go in one specific place over and over again, which can be both very sanitary and also aggravate the problem. Dealing with the litter box is never fun, but there are a few things you can do to help sidestep a lot of the frustration.

There’s no good reason to bring up pet food scares. As with anything mass-produced, there is the risk of contamination at some point, but there’s no evidence that you should be constantly afraid. However, there also isn’t any reason to avoid something a bit outside the norm, such as homemade cat food. Have you considered making your cat’s dinners fresh from your kitchen? Well here’s a little advice to help you get started.
Cats are a curious creature, constantly showing signs of a hidden mystery or two. But one thing we do know for certain is that no cat lives forever. Still, knowing just how long your kitty will end up living isn’t an exact science, but there are a few indicators to give you a fairly good idea of what sort of feline longevity to expect. Here is a rough approximation for how long your cats will live.
If you were to look at a cat, what is the first thing that stands out to you? Is it the whiskers? Or maybe the claws? Or how about those ears? For me it’s usually the tail, likely held high and swishing only when the cat decides. But with something that’s so vital to the cat, how bad is it when the tail is actually broken? Well, let’s take a look.
Cat owners everywhere are pretty familiar with the reasons behind giving their cat some form of ID. No matter how careful you are about keeping your cat indoors and confined to the apartment or the house, chances are they’ll find a way outside at least once or twice. If they have some form of identification, then there’s less risk involved of them either getting adopted by someone else or of getting snatched up by the pound and then put down, but for those of you who haven’t considered giving them some ID, here’s what you should look into.
Cleaning your cats ears is not something you should need to do regularly. Cats are very good about grooming themselves and this includes their ears. If you are going to clean their ears, however, it is probably easiest to do this while you are bathing or brushing them. Your cat may have excess ear wax and external dirt just at the base of the ear, this is easily cleaned with a cotton ball and some hydrogen peroxide. Rub the ear clean gently while you pet your cat.
While most cat owners are careful to watch for any signs of illness, many forget or are unaware of the importance of keeping an eye on their cats dental health as well. A large number of cats have dental disease and these problems can lead to painful extractions, expensive vet bills and other secondary conditions such as the build up of plaque in the arteries. Caring for your cats’ teeth can be simple once you and your cat have gotten into a routine.
Your cat has gotten pregnant or a pregnant stray has adopted you? Don't worry! Caring for a pregnant kitty isn't as difficult as it can be. If spaying is not an option for you while your cat is pregnant, then here is a quick guide to help you prepare for what will be an exciting but new phase of life.
Cats are a funny creature in that they’re capable of amazing feats of athletic prowess like leaping incredible heights, sprinting at insane speeds, or flipping around with what can very accurately be described as “catlike agility,” yet they prefer to spend the majority of their time sitting around doing absolutely nothing in between eating, pooping, and more napping. Finding ways for your cat to exercise can be tough if you’re not paying attention to their weight, but it’s important to consider, so here are a few ways to help get your cat to exercise.
Grooming your cats is something you should not need to do very often. Most cats are capable of keeping themselves perfectly groomed unless they get into something sticky like gum or paint. There are also some breeds of cats that need regular and even weekly grooming. Persians, Sphynx, Peterbald, Himalayans, and a number of other hypoallergenic breeds require regular grooming and bathing. The hypoallergenic breeds need help grooming their natural oils off their skin or they can cause skin problems. If your cat is one of these breeds, be sure you start them at a young age and keep baths a fun and enjoyable experience.

There is without a doubt one aspect of cat ownership that inevitably terrifies everyone, and that’s the horrific time when your cat goes to the vet and you learn that you’ll need to give them a pill once a day in order to make them well again. How many of us have just considered right there that it may just be their time to go? Okay, we all reluctantly accept out fates, but sometimes giving your cat a pill doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Here are a few tips to make it a bit easier, or at least a little less painful for everyone involved.
Aggression is threatening or harmful behavior directed at people, cats or animals. They almost always come from the desire to guard their territory, defend offspring and protect themselves. It encompasses a variety of behaviors from hissing and avoidance to attacking with claws and teeth. It is the second most common problem of feline behavior. They have five potential weapons: teeth and four clawed paws, that can inflict bites and lacerations that can give humans cat scratch fever and other infections. Fights between cats rarely result in fatalities, but they can lead to severe infections and medical problems that come with considerable expenses.
At some point most of us will end up traveling with our animals. Whether heading off on a long vacation or moving cross-country, these tips will help you make the journey as smooth as possible for you and your cat.
Keeping your cats nails short is an important part of keeping your sanity as a pet owner. While shorter nails on your cat may not completely protect your furniture, it will make it more difficult for them to hook their claws into the fabric and stretch. Cardboard or sisal scratching posts, however are made for nails of all lengths and may become their new favorite scratching choice. Learning how to trim you cat's nails and keep them under control is simple.
Speaking from experience, few things are as panic-inducing as being faced with the possibility that your beloved cat has escaped and run away. It can be terrifying to go through all the different scenarios of horrible or tragic things that may have befallen your fuzzy friend, but don’t freak out just yet! There are plenty of perfectly calm, rational things you can- and should- do to find your cat. Here’s how you should go about finding your lost cat.
It doesn’t take much for people to swoon over their kitties. Cats just seem to have it all going on, whether it be the cute stare, the fluffy faces, or the warm snuggling. But dang, cats have got some amazing powers! We seem to forget a lot of what makes cats to cool when all we see of them is lazing about, sleeping, and then sleeping some more after their nap. Perhaps all that down time is just to recharge their batteries for amazing powers? Here’s how your cat is like a superhero.
Hyperthyroidism are less common in cats than in dogs, in fact they are likely accidental hosts as their bodies to not provide an ideal host like the body of a dog.
If your cat is not spayed, she will eventually experience coming into heat. It is important to understand what being in heat or oestrus. Heat, oestrus, and estrus are all terms that can be used to describe the condition of being in heat, or fertile and receptive to mating. It is the period of time during with the females body is able to receive fertilization from a male through the mating process and conceive a litter of kittens. Understanding how conception works in felines is not necessary in figuring out if your cat is in heat but is worth researching so that you understand how the process works.
Everyone is feeling the pinch these days and any way that we can cut down our monthly outgoings has to be good – doesn’t it? Well, yes and no or more accurately, it depends. It often seems as though paying out for an insurance policy we never use is a waste of money but what happens to those few pounds a month you save on, for example, pet insurance? In all likelihood they become immersed into your weekly spend and you hardly even notice as an outgoing. However, when you’re doing that financial audit and your pet seems perfectly healthy, pet insurance might seem like a waste of money. So we cancel the policy and hope Rover stays fit and well.

Cat introductions are important no matter how old the child. The introduction of a new person into the life of your cat is one that you will not want to rush for the sake of both the cat and the baby or toddler. It is important to keep in mind how different adults are from babies and toddlers. Small children cry, scream, wobble and are much closer to cat level than adults are and much of this can be very frightening to a cat who has not experienced it before. Your kitten may become frightened and hide or become defensive and try to fight the invader off. Neither creates an ideal situation.
Your kitten has come home, he’s about 8-weeks-old and recently separated from his mommy and litter mates, now the responsibility of feeding and providing proper nutrition has switched from the mother and owner to you. What do you feed your kitten? What are the special nutritional requirements that kittens have? Canned food or dry? These are all important questions that you will want to have answered before you go out to buy your kitten food.
A cat’s tail is an important part of who and what they are. They are predominantly used for two things, speech and balance, and are an actual continuation of the feline spine. Even many of the "tail less" breeds, such as the Manx, have something of a tail and fall into three categories: rumpies, risers, and stumpies. Rumpies are perhaps the only cat that actually has the vertebrae naturally ended at an unnatural point creating the tail less look. This had lead to certain dangerous conditions in some cats, such as spina bifida. Risers and stumpies both possess something of a tail; risers having one or two vertebrae and stumpies simply having a noticeably short tail. If you choose to purchase a "tail less" cat from a breeder, it is important to know what side effects of the breeding can occur and be sure you do not support any breeder that knowingly continues to breed cats that have had these problems before.

Hey, this is a resource for cats, not Pokemon! Well, yes, that’s true, but it just so happens that Pokemon has an insistence on including many cat-like characters through its history. Each new generation (there have been five thus far) adds a new cat-like Pokemon to the list in some way or another, and a lot of them have some very basic similarities. Here is just a little primer to show you what’s been happening in the world of Pokemon.
Some days we feel like we’re waiting on our cats hand and foot like they’re some sort of holy entity within our homes. And some days our cats know this. But fortunately (or unfortunately?) there’s some actual merit behind this strange worship. You might be aware that long ago in Egypt, cats were in fact considered deities and thought to be sacred, but did you know to what extent? Here’s the history of the deity cats of Ancient Egypt.
I spent the majority of my life living with cats. Only recently have I been forced by my wife to integrate a dog into my world. Since then we’ve seemed more at odds with things than ever. The dog and I constantly find ourselves at odds as he doesn’t like me getting attention from my wife and I don’t like him existing. But we manage to get along just fine otherwise. My cat and I, however, have a far different relationship of perfect co-existence. This is because I am a cat person whereas my wife is a dog person. From this I’ve come to understand a few core differences about the two, whether anecdotal or otherwise. Here are some of those differences.
Cats are by nature outdoor creatures. However, we’ve managed to domesticate them rather well to the point that their lifespans leap dramatically when kept indoors and only indoors. Still, there’s a chance you’ll catch your kitty longingly gazing out at the trees and the birds, wishing it could be out there. It may even make a break for it when you least expect it and the opportunity jumps out. There may actually be another way, and that’s an outdoor cat cage. What would that entail? Read on and let’s find out.
Cats, so often viewed as aloof and uncaring, are breaking into the therapy animal field. They visit patients in the medical community and provide them with love, affection, and an animal that will spend a few minutes giving them undivided attention. True, this is predominantly a roll considered to be for dogs, but despite the misconception, some breeds of cats are very human loving and affectionate.
Your average cat owner can get slightly bewildered about all the different treatments out there for various cat problems. Not all veterinary practices give a clear description of exactly what the treatments are either.
Just like a young child, kittens seem to get into absolutely everything. It is important that you investigate both the high and low points of your home and make sure that it is ready for your new, curious kitty.
We all age and with that our bodies age. As our pets get older they may begin to suffer from some of the same issues we do, arthritis being one of them. Cats can suffer from bacterial, rheumatoid or osteoarthritis, and it usually sets in at about nine years; though it can set in earlier in overweight cats as they put more strain on their bodies. It is distressing to watch your kitty suddenly lose interest in playing games, struggling to walk up stairs, or have an accident on their way to the litter box. Here are some tips to help give your elderly, and arthritic companion comfort and ease of life in their final years.
Naming your kitten is one of the first decisions as a new pet owner that you will make. Some people like to set a name before they pick up their kitten, but others prefer to wait until they see the kitten or get them home before deciding on the perfect name for their little bundle of fluff. Here are some tips to help you pick a name for your little kitty!
1. Keep your cat's age in mindOlder cats have different pet bed needs than younger cats. Consider getting something a little more expensive but that is made to help relieve the pain of arthritis. There are now memory foam beds, beds with heating pads, and a variety of other options to help keep your senior citizen healthy and happy and comfortable in their later years. Younger cats, however, don't need these things quite as much, so a bed that will keep them warm simply by withholding their warmth is a perfect bed.

No one enjoys living in a house full of hissing, spitting and yowling cats. And no owner enjoys the vet bill that comes with taking care of bites and scratches. Owners should be aware that most inter-cat aggression occurs between cats of the same gender and increases during the mating season. Spaying and neutering, especially when done early, can decrease cat-to-cat aggression by up to 90%. It may not always solve it as cats can become angry with each other just like people, but it will help to resolve one underlying issue.

There are a wide number of reasons why your cat may be going potty outside their litter box. It is one of the most frustrating things a cat owner can experience, but many of the solutions to the problem are easy to fix. It is most important that cat owners realize that urinating outside the litter box is one of the key signs of a urinary tract infection. Urination becomes painful, and the cat begins to associate the litter box with the pain of urination and begins to avoid going potty there in the hopes that going potty somewhere else will be less painful. Pay attention to your cat, are they crying when they go? Do they strain? Is the urine bloody? All of these are signs that your cat may need a quick trip to the vet.

Cats are known for squeezing into tight spaces, and are clever enough creatures that we might mistakenly assume that they will automatically know how to use a cat flap. However, it does take time to train your cat to use this special little door, especially if you have an adult cat who is used to having the door opened for them by humans!
The best way to teach or train your cat in any tricks is with the accompaniment of a food based reward- their favorite treat, for example. Here are five tricks you can teach your cat at home.

If there is one universal truth to the relationship between humans and cats, it’s that we unquestioningly love kittens despite not knowing all that much about the,. Granted, experts know a great deal about why kittens act the way they do and how we should respond to them, but most people just adopting don’t really know what every kitten has had to go through to get to where they are now and what they’ll eventually become. It’s important to know a few things about this new pet though if you’re planning to adopt, or if your cat just gave birth to a brand new litter, so here is what you need to know to understand kittens.
A lot of cat owners seem to be cursed with the typical habit of what can only be called the “nighttime weird time.” Something about the night brings out the worst (or best) in cats, but there’s a definite reason for it. However, if you’re looking for ways to help alleviate your kitty’s bothersome instincts at night, here’s some advice that may help.
Normally when it comes to adopting cats, any breed is considered equal in that it’s always good to rescue a cat from an overcrowded shelter, but with the Bengal breed there are a few more complications to the process. The thing is, Bengal cats from shelters require a good deal more care than most other breed you’d adopt, and while the reason may sound weird it will make a ton of sense when you hear it. So here’s what you should know if you’re planning to adopt a Bengal cat from a shelter.
Most pet owners would do anything for their beloved animal, no matter the difficulty. If your cat needed a lung, we know that you’d do nothing short of donating one of your lungs if it meant saving your friend. But sometimes there just isn’t anything you can do. It’s not easy, but no kitty, no matter how loved, can live forever. Eventually you will be faced with the hardest choice of all: When to put your cat to sleep. It’s not an option you want to think about, but it’s something you’ll have to deal with. Here are a few things to consider.
Your cat is going to get into things you don’t want it to. No, don’t try to stop this, that’s just the nature of being a feline. No matter how well you end up hiding things, they will find a way to get to it. Nothing is worse for your cat than getting into some plant that they really shouldn’t, and as much as we’d like to think that our cats will just be able to recognize when to stay away from the hazards, they sometimes just refuse. Here is a list of plants you should just keep out of your house if you have cats.
Those with cats seem to understand that the fuzzy little balls of insanity are not what you’d call pack animals. In the wild, cats aren’t really seen living together, hunting together, sleeping together, or playing together. Indoors however things can change just a bit. The typical housecat is much different from the typical outdoor cat, and one such difference is how their dynamic with other cats can change drastically. Those with no cats yet, or just one, here’s something to consider: The best option may be to own cats in pairs, and here’s why.
Cats have claws and like to starch things. There’s no getting around that any more than dogs are always hungry and will eat anything and fish have gills and need water to breathe. However, unlike any other pets, cats can actually have their biggest downside removed. However, this choice to declaw your cat may actually be the worst thing you could do for your pet. Here are three simply reasons why declawing your cat is a bad decision.
All cat owners have experienced this at some point in their lives: Your cat picks your lap out of all the other warm spots in the house, sits down, and then begins to purr and knead your leg. Why do cats do this? Is there a specific need? Is there a reason to the odd behavior? Here’s why cats knead.
One of the biggest aspects of a cat’s personality is its ability to not only be aloof at all times but also to be entirely unpredictable. Most of us experience a nightly activity we can only refer to as “that weird time of night” when our cats decide that all reason should be done away with and frantic sprinting is in order. Why do cats do that? Just what is behind this erratic behavior? I have no idea, but let’s talk about it anyway.
If you’re reading SimplyCatBreeds today, chances are you’re a cat person. One quality of such an individual is the desire to see and care for as many cats as possible (or at least it is in this author’s experience), but there’s a subject that we seem to forget at times: The need to have our kitty fixed. Getting your cat spayed or neutered is one of those all-important steps for feline ownership, but do you know exactly why? Let’s talk just a bit about the positives of such a procedure.
Some of the newest cats to break upon the feline scene are the domestic-wild hybrids. These cats are part wild and part domestic and allow owners to have a little bit of the wilderness in their homes. The Savannah, Chausie and Bengal are all domestic-wild hybrids. These are not cats to take lightly, but they are certainly kitties to consider adopting if you have a lifestyle that will permit it.
Owning a kitten is a rewarding decision. Perhaps you've made the decision and have a lovable bundle of fur bouncing around your home or you are contemplating making an adoption and looking for information on how to be a responsible pet owner. In either case, rest assured that owning a kitten is a rewarding decision, much like raising a child, you are the main force in the development of something from its youngest and most formative years.
